Meet Dr. Sara Garcia - Dentist Tucson, AZ

“Dentistry has changed tremendously since our parents’ time, when there was little care or concern for patient comfort. As more women have joined the field and newer technologies have been introduced, the face of dentistry has literally changed. I feel the most important part of my job is to educate and nurture patients throughout their lifetimes to empower them to make the healthiest decisions for themselves and their families. In this way, we are slowly changing the perception that visiting the dentist is painful or scary—one patient at time.” – Dr. Garcia

Our dentist in Tucson, Dr. Sara Garcia, grew up in Blythe, a small farming community in southern California. She completed her undergraduate degree at Stanford University; after graduation, she worked as a consultant for a private firm that specialized in urban design and planning.

After a brief career as an urban planner, Dr. Garcia was accepted to the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, in San Francisco, California. Committed to academic excellence, she graduated with honors and was inducted into the honor society, Tau Kappa Omega.

Continuing Education

Following dental school, Dr. Garcia completed a one-year residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry through Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, where she was able to learn from some of the best dental educators in the country. This clinical experience and didactic training has allowed her to perform more advanced, specialty procedures for her patients as a dentist in Tucson.

In order to provide her patients with cutting-edge dentistry, and to fulfill her own desire for life-long learning, Dr. Garcia often attends continuing education courses to stay abreast of the most effective dental techniques and technologies. In addition, she is an active member of the Pima Dental Study Club, Arizona Dental Society, American Dental Association, SPEAR Education, and CEREC® Doctors.

Outside the Office

“It is the connection you make with people and being able to help someone with a problem or pain and seeing them feel better is the best reward.” – Dr. Garcia

Dr. Garcia knows she is incredibly fortunate to have the opportunities in her life that have allowed her to find a profession she loves: being a dentist in Tucson. She doesn’t take this for granted, and is committed to giving back to those less fortunate. She is an active member of the Flying Samaritans, an organization of doctors, dentists, and other health professionals who travel to other countries to provide essential health services to communities in need. Not wanting to forget about her underprivileged neighbors here at home, she also participates in Hopefest, an annual event that provides free dental service and much more to the underserved Tucson community.

Aside from work, Dr. Garcia enjoys spending her free time traveling, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her husband, Dr. Tim Cross, and their dog, Luna. Her favorite sites from her travels include Arches National Park, London, and Rome.
